Informations about Montenegro

Citizens of European Union can enter, transit through the territory and stay in Montenegro for up to 90 days, with a valid travel document, without a visa.

- Holders of travel documents with a valid Schengen visa, a valid visa from the United States, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, or the Republic of Ireland, as well as residence permits from those countries, may enter and stay in, or transit through, the territory of Montenegro for up to 30 days, but no longer than the expiration of their visa if the validity period is shorter than 30 days.

Montenegro has a size of only 13.812 km2, which makes it one of the smallest European countries. On the other side, 80% of the country are the mountains, has numerous canyons, gorges, so this is one of those countries that brings you lot of contrast and diversity between the regions.

Population of Montenegro is only 633,158 people, mostly inhabited in Southern and central region of the country.

Montenegro is known as very safe country for foreing visitors, generally one of the safest countries of Europe to come to.

We don’t have large social problems, bad zones in the towns, and there is no crime on the street. You will feel that at every step of your visit.

Towns and communities are small, so people know each other, and foreigner that enter Montenegro feels welcomed.

Four seasons a year. In southern and continental parts we have a long springs and autumns that are ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing. Summers are hot, with average temperatures of around 35 degrees. And winters are easy, rainy and windy, but not cold. Only in the region of Lovcen mountain and Cetinje town we have microclimate which is typical mountain climate. On the north we have a typical mountain climate, with long cold winters, with a lot of snow and short springs and autumns, with a pleasant summers.

Throughout the whole year. December to March are good for winter activities and winter sightseeing, especially in the northern part of Montenegro. April to October is the best time to explore the cities and beaches.

Euro is the only legal currency that you can use in Montenegro to pay with. Stores, bars, restaurants, hotels do not accept any other currency.

Montenegro has no money exchange offices, so you will need to go in the bank to change it. THe good thing is that every town, does not metter how small it is has at least few banks where you can do the money change.

Be carefull with the timing - banks usually do the money exchange until 14:00. Also, have in mind that in Sathurday most of the banks are not open, and the one that are, they work until 14:00.

Banks are not open in Sunday or duriing the national holidays.

Cards for payment : Each town has ATM machines, so you can withdraw the money. and machines are safe, so do not worry that your card may be lost in the machine.

Most of the bars, restaurants, shopps also accept cards (Master, Visa, American express), still its good to have few euros cash with you for any case.

The size of the country is that small that we do not have any need for inner- country flights.

Montenegro has good, developed motorways, and brand-new highway that connect central Montenegro with the northern part of the country. Country invested a lot in the roads, so all of them are modern. Some curvy and narrow roads we use as tourist attractions, but if the clients are not interested in experienced it, we can always go with the main roads.

From the south to the main highlights of the country north, you can arrive in 3 to 3h30 minutes time. It means that you will change a few totally different regions in only a few hours. It means that day to day ride are not long (20 to 50, 80 km in one direction), and longer rides you might have only if you go across the country to visit far distant regions (from the coast to the north for example).

Each region brings you different sights, vegetation, stories, so clients are usually overwhelmed by the beauty in front of them.

Montenegro has two airports: Airport Podgorica (nearby the capital), and airport Tivat (Adriatic coastline).

Both odf them are connected with certain numbers of European towns and in travel season, from March to November, number of connection is larger.

Airports are connected with: Belgrade, istanbul, Roma, Copenhagen, London, Munchen, Berlin, and many other towns/ countries.

Podgorica Airport - distance from important locations:

- 15 minutes away from the Podgorica city centre.

- 15 minutes away from Lake Skadar National park.

- 1h to 1h 30 minutes away from the towns at Adriatic coastline (1 h Bar, Budva, 1h 30 minutes, Ulcinj, Tivat, Kotor)

- 1 h away from the one of the most important tourist centers up north (Kolasin).

Tivat Airport - distance from important locations:

• 10 to 40 minutes from the nearest cities (Tivat, Kotor, Budva, Herceg Novi) and a bit longer travel time you need as you go to the eastern part of the coast.

• 1h30 minutes from Podgorica the capital of Montenegro.

• 2h30 minutes from the first cities in northern Montenegro

Montenegro, so as the whole Balkan peninsula, has great mix of European and Oriental cuisine.

Each region has its own specifics, and their own way of preparing the meal.

The Adriatic coast offers typical Mediterranean style cuisine with a lot of fish and seafood. it’s known for the big number of Olive grows, and numerous sorts of fruit and vegetable, herbs.

Continental and north of country are known for lots of specialties bases on meat, vegetables, different way of preparation. There is a wide selection of cheese, that can be young, or dried, smoked, so as different sorts of dried meat. River and lake, fish, local barbeque, meat under the iron bell are a must in this area.

Different sorts of stews and cabbage rolls are for the one that want to taste typical old family meals.

As a country that has lots of sun and fresh water we are blessed with rich vegetation, including lots of fruit (grapes, figs, apples, plumb, pear and others) so our wines and fruit brandy’s are famous in this part of Europe.

In most of the country, tap water is good, based on springs, and it is ok to you to drink it. Locals do drink it. Still we always recommend foreigners to try to skip drinking local water, as they are not used to it, as it might be different from the one they have back home. This way you go on the safe side, and you are not risking to spoil your stomach in those few days of visit.

Working day of boutiques and markets in Montenegro is usually from 08:00 in the morning and it lasts (without breaks) untill evening hours, 20:00 or 21:00, and some small shops can be open even later on.

Be careful ! Boutiques an markets are not open in Sunday due to local laws. In Sunday, you can buy basic things only in bakery's, equpped petrol stations and simillar.

Restaurants and bars are open every day in a week and they have no siestas.

There are 3 different regions:

Southern Montenegro - 300 km of beautiful Adriatic coast, 6 riviera's, 117 beaches including the longest European sandy beach (13 km long at Ulcinj town called Long beach). Cities on Adriatic coast mostly oriented around their fortified old towns that have mix of old Roman/ Greek influenced, and newer Venetian/ Ottoman. Montenegrin coastline is one of the sunniest regions of Europe.

Continental Montenegro - Mix of the high hills that rise directly from the coastline, region of the biggest Lake of the Balkan peninsula (Lake Skadar), lots of rivers, valleys, and cultural and religious monuments. This is the wine region of Montenegro. Most important cities are Podgorica (the capital of Montenegro) and Cetinje - The old Royal capital, beautiful city museum.

Northern Montenegro - Mostly mountainous region catted with numerous canyons and gorges. Here you will find the highest mountains of Montenegro with numerous glacial lakes, deepest canyon of Europe (Tara River canyon), 3 national park, 1 UNESCO natural protected zone. Generally, this region is blessed with untouched nature, large number of forest community, simple lifestyle and amazing food.

Info about your trip

By phone or e-mail you can contact us, and get all the information about the tour, but booking is completed after your payment is proceeded. Payment can be done through our on-line e-commerce system, or by the payment through the bank wire transfer.

We accept master, visa and American express credit cards.

In the case of accident or injury, insurance is included in the price of the tour. For the activity tours like hiking, horse riding, canyoning, rafting and kayaking is required to be in a good health and good physical condition as this type of tours can be physically challenging.

Booking can be changed depending on availability of our tour guides, accommodation that you have pre booked and other services included in your program. First you need to contact someone from our team, so we can see if the changes are possible.

In the case of the bad weather conditions, in some parts of the country (big rain, thundering and heavy snow) that will make it unsuitable for the touring, tour can be changed for another tour, rescheduled or all guests will receive a 100% refund.

We can arrange pick up on your demand from every city in Montenegro, that is mentioned in your tour details.

For the tours such us rafting, canyoning, horse riding, kayaking and some demanding hiking tours age restrictions can apply. Guests are advised to provide us their personal details, so we can arrange them a tour following all safety procedures.

We recommend you to get comprehensive repatriation insurance in your home country before you come to Montenegro. Following our local laws and standards we must insure all our guests on every single tour that we provide.

Client has the right to cancel the tour.
If client cancels reservation/service purchased within 24 hours before the start of the tour, he/she is not entitled to a refund of the money paid for the tour.

If client does not appear on the departure day of the tour (which had previously paid entirely), and did not announce the arrival (within 24 hours before departure), he/she is not entitled to a refund paid for the tour.

  • up to 30 days before departure My Guided Trip d.o.o. retains 10% of the paid amount;
  • 29-15 days before departure My Guided Trip d.o.o. retains 25% of the paid amount;
  • 14-3 days before departure My Guided Trip d.o.o. retains 50% of the paid amount;
  • 2 -0 days before departure My Guided Trip d.o.o. retains 100% of the paid amount.

Our tours are based on reservations and therefore notification of your absence must be as soon as possible in order to allow other guests to join the tour.
